Past Meetings

Meeting: Friday, May 23, 2008

Guest artist: Ben Goldman

Goldman 1Ben’s art education has been primarily one of learning from experience. Married to an extraordinary artist, Sandra Goldman, Ben would watch her paint, and would sometimes go with her to art workshops and meetings.

While running a business, he started taking evening classes in art at a local college, and discovered that his art was good enough to be accepted in local and regional art shows.

When Ben lost his beloved Sandy in 2005, he discovered that through art, he could find some solace and focus in life again.

Since that time, Ben’s work has been successfully juried into shows by such eminent art associations as National Watercolor Society (NWS) and is a Signature Member of the International Society of Acrylic Painters (ISAP), where he has won numerous awards.

Ben is also an active member of Collage Artists of America, and his interest in experimental art also encouraged him to take a leading role in the Los Angeles Experimental Artists (LAEA), which has now grown to 3 groups, meeting monthly at VIVA Gallery. LAEA members include many of the area’s finest artists. Ben’s work has won numerous awards and been purchased by corporations and individual collectors both nationally and internationally.

Artist Statement

“Since my art is mostly non-representational, I rarely have a preconception of any subject . I like to allow the painting to evolve until it ‘speaks to me.’ At that point, I invariably start to add collage elements to enhance my own interest (and hopefully the viewer’s), with the emphasis on good design and color.

“My goal is to have fun, and hope that others will join in the fun with me when my work is shown.”
